_76676196_utopia-sign

To sum up a somewhat strangely interesting year, we’re sharing a link to the film made by Steve Pool featuring the amazing Nancy Kerr – BBC folk musician of the year – talking about Pitsmoor Adventure Playground. This was supported by professor Kate Pahl from the university of Sheffield and the Arts Humanities and Research Council’s Connected Communities programme. She describes what happens on an adventure playground in a beautiful and passionate way and that goes to show that anybody who witnesses the magic of play can be enchanted by it.   The Yorkshire Play team would like to take this […]

unnamed

‘This new guidance paper provides a summary of a detailed risk-benefit assessment that considers common but potentially hazardous play behaviours displayed by children during staffed play sessions. Play Wales, in partnership with Simon Bazley (Playful Futures), worked with Wrexham’s Play Development Team to develop an approach to behaviour based risk-benefit assessment.  Further work between the play development team and staff from The Land adventure playground has led to the development of The ABC Model for the Dynamic Risk Management of Common but Potentially Hazardous Play Behaviours. Playground claim thrown out in landmark court judgement

scales-of-justice-bc

Thanks to Tim Gill at Rethinking Childhood for this: Posted on February 22, 2016 | A claim for compensation after a playground accident has been rejected in a precedent-setting legal case in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The civil claim was made against the municipality of Saanich, following an accident during a game of ‘grounders’ (a chase game played on and around fixed play equipment that my daughter and her London friends would know better as ‘off-ground touch’). The accident happened in 2009 when the claimant, Rebecca Thompson, was eleven years old and had been attending a day camp […]
